How age is calculated here

This calculator counts full calendar years, months, and days between your date of birth and the "as of" date — the same way you'd count on a calendar, not a rough estimate based on averages. It starts with the year difference, then adjusts backward if the birth month/day hasn't been reached yet in the current year, and again if the birth day hasn't been reached in the current month. That's why the numbers stay accurate even across leap years and months of different lengths.

Worked example

Someone born on March 15, 2000, checking their age as of July 17, 2026, is 26 years, 4 months, 2 days old — and their next birthday is on March 15, 2027.

You can also use the "as of" field to calculate age (or time elapsed) on a specific past or future date — useful for figuring out someone's age at a wedding, a graduation, or a historical event.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate the time between two dates that aren't a birthday?
Yes — enter any earlier date as "Date of Birth" and any later date as "Calculate Age As Of" to get the exact years, months, and days between them.

Does this account for leap years?
Yes. Because the calculation is based on actual calendar dates rather than a fixed 365-day year, leap years are handled automatically and correctly.

Why does "Total Days Lived" not exactly match years × 365?
Leap years add an extra day roughly every four years, so total days lived is always slightly higher than a simple 365-day-per-year estimate over long spans.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is exact age calculated?

It counts the full years, months, and days between your birth date and the target date, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years.

Why does my age in days look different from a rough estimate?

Simple estimates (like years × 365) ignore leap years. This calculator counts actual calendar days, which is slightly more accurate over many years.

Can I calculate age as of a future or past date?

Yes — enter any target date, not just today, to see age (or time until/since) at that specific point.
