Estimate how long a download or upload will take on your connection.
The Internet Download Time Calculator estimates how long it will take to download (or upload) a file of a given size at a given connection speed — handy for planning large downloads, backups, or video transfers.
Internet speeds are usually advertised in megabits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are shown in megabytes (MB) — note that 1 byte = 8 bits, so this calculator handles that conversion for you.
A 10 GB file on a 100 Mbps connection: 10 GB = 80,000 megabits. At 100 Mbps, time = 80,000 ÷ 100 = 800 seconds ≈ 13 minutes 20 seconds.
Download time = file size ÷ download speed, with units converted consistently (e.g. megabytes to megabits, since internet speeds are usually advertised in bits per second, not bytes).
Advertised speeds are usually in megabits per second (Mbps), while file sizes are shown in megabytes (MB) — 1 byte = 8 bits, so actual download speed in MB/s is roughly your Mbps divided by 8.
Server speed, network congestion, Wi-Fi signal strength, and the number of devices sharing your connection can all make actual speeds lower than your maximum plan speed.
