Multiplying fractions is more direct: multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. Dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its reciprocal (flipping the numerator and denominator).
Mixed numbers (like 2 ¾) are converted to improper fractions before the calculation runs, then the final answer is converted back into a simplified fraction — and a mixed number when the result is greater than 1.
