Resize a recipe up or down by scaling ingredient amounts to a new serving size.
This calculator resizes a recipe up or down by scaling every ingredient amount by the same factor, based on how many servings you want compared to the original recipe.
Scaling Factor = Desired Servings ÷ Original Servings. New Ingredient Amount = Original Amount × Scaling Factor.
Scaling a recipe from 4 servings to 6 servings gives a factor of 1.5 (6 ÷ 4). If the original recipe calls for 2 cups of flour, the new amount is 3 cups (2 × 1.5).
Scaling factors work well for most ingredients, but baking leaveners (yeast, baking soda/powder) and spices don't always scale linearly — adjust those to taste, especially for large batches.
It multiplies every ingredient by the same scaling factor (target servings ÷ original servings).
Not always — spices, leavening agents, and cooking times may need manual adjustment for large scaling factors.
Often yes — significant scaling usually requires adjusting pan size and possibly bake time.
