Sod is typically sold in rolls of about 9 or 10 square feet, or on pallets that cover roughly 450 square feet — check with your supplier for exact sizing.
Total Area = Length × Width × (1 + Waste %). Rolls Needed = Total Area ÷ Roll Size (rounded up).
A 50 ft × 30 ft lawn (1,500 sq ft) with 5% waste needs about 1,575 sq ft of sod — roughly 175 rolls at 9 sq ft each, or about 3.5 pallets.
