Find out exactly how many rolls of wallpaper you need for your room.
Buying the right number of wallpaper rolls saves you money and prevents mid-project trips back to the store. This calculator works out your total wall area, divides it by the coverage area of a single roll, and adds a waste allowance to account for pattern matching, trimming, and cutting around doors or windows.
Total Wall Area = Wall Width × Wall Height × Number of Walls
Rolls Needed = ROUND UP [ (Total Wall Area × (1 + Waste%)) ÷ (Roll Width × Roll Length) ]
For 4 walls each 4m wide and 2.5m high: Total Area = 4 × 2.5 × 4 = 40 m². With a standard roll of 0.53m × 10m = 5.3 m² per roll, and a 10% waste allowance: Rolls Needed = (40 × 1.10) ÷ 5.3 = 44 ÷ 5.3 ≈ 8.3, which rounds up to 9 rolls.
Deduct large door and window areas for a more precise estimate, and always round up to the nearest whole roll.
Total wall area divided by a single roll's coverage, accounting for pattern repeat.
Patterns needing alignment across strips often require extra material.
Yes, one extra roll is common for cutting errors and dye-lot consistency.
