BMR is estimated with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Men: BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + 5. Women: BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age − 161. The calculator then finds the age bracket whose typical average BMR is closest to your own.
A 40-year-old man weighing 80 kg and 178 cm tall has a BMR of about 1,748 kcal/day, close to the typical average for a man in his late 20s — giving him a metabolic age noticeably younger than his real age.
